Privacy, Legal & Copyright

Important information about using Recording MyKa and contributing to the KHGN chronicle archive.

No Living Individuals Policy

Recording MyKa is a historical genealogy platform operated by Kentucky History & Genealogy Network Inc. (KHGN). All chronicle entries must relate exclusively to deceased individuals. Do not record, publish, or share personally identifiable information about any living person — including names, addresses, birth dates, or family relationships — on this platform. KHGN reserves the right to remove any chronicle that violates this policy without notice.

Public Visibility of Chronicles

All published chronicles are publicly accessible on the internet without requiring a user account. This means search engines, genealogy services, and the general public may discover and view the content you publish. Before publishing, carefully review every field — names, dates, counties, narrative text, and photographs — to ensure no living individuals are included and no sensitive personal data is exposed. Draft chronicles remain private until you choose to publish.

Data & Privacy

Recording MyKa collects only the information necessary to operate the platform: your Google account name and email (for authentication and volunteer coordination), XP and lesson progress (stored in your account record), and the chronicle content you choose to submit. We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties outside of KHGN operations. For questions about your data, contact KHGN Inc. at khgninc@gmail.com.

Platform Operation

Recording MyKa is operated by Kentucky History & Genealogy Network Inc., a Kentucky nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the history and genealogy of Kentucky families. The platform is provided as an educational service. KHGN reserves the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any feature at any time.

Unaccredited Volunteer Training

The training modules, skill checks, and tier badges provided by Kentucky History & Genealogy Network Inc. (KHGN) are strictly unaccredited, informal community learning exercises. KHGN is not a college, university, or vocational trade school. Completing these modules does not confer an academic degree, professional title, or vocational certification of any kind. This platform is designed solely to train community volunteers in basic historical preservation and transcription skills.

Technical Compliance Notice — Land Records

Exercises involving historical land deeds, platting, or boundary dimensions are strictly intended for historical document abstraction and ancestral neighborhood visualization of deceased lines only. This training does not constitute, and must never be used for, professional land surveying, engineering, or legal title examination. Under KRS Chapter 322, only a licensed Professional Land Surveyor may legally establish boundary lines, determine modern property limits, or draft plats for real estate records.
